Aug 12, 2016: Project cargo specialist BNSF Logistics has collected and transported a NASA super pressure balloon and payload equipment from a remote area near to the Peruvian city of Arequipa.

The project was coordinated by BNSF Logistics Houston’s Global Project Center team and was completed by air. Due to the difficult terrain the team determined that access by road was not feasible for all of the equipment due to volcanic rock laden hills and soft talcum-like sands.

Once the equipment was successfully loaded at the landing site it was transported to the capital Lima before being flown to Houston. The equipment landed at the site after having been launched from a site in New Zealand.

BNSF Logistics is a subsidiary of freight railroad operator Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Headquartered in Flower Mound, Texas, BNSF Logistics provides expertise in project cargo, ocean, rail, air, less-than-truckload, and intermodal transport.

The firm is a member of the Worldwide Project Consortium which connects breakbulk and project cargo providers around the globe.
