October 7, 2017: DP World Group Chairman and CEO Ahmed Bin Sulayem met with the new Algerian Minister of Public Works and Transport, Abdelghani Zalène, to discuss plans for the development of DP World Algiers. Operating two ports in the country – DP World Djazair and DP World Djen-Djen – the global trade enabler has contributed to Algeria’s economic development for almost a decade. It is working with the government to develop its operations for the benefit of businesses and local communities.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, said, “In the run-up to Algeria’s accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and in light of recent oil price fluctuations, diversification of the economy is a path that the government has embarked on in earnest. In partnership with Algeria’s leadership, we’re looking at ways to increase efficiency and capacity at DP World Algiers as the economy grows. Investments in trade infrastructure, accompanied by state-of-the-art technologies like our Dubai Trade electronic port community system helps local businesses prosper and access global markets.”

DP World was awarded the concession to operate the container terminal at the Port of Algiers, DP World Djazair, in 2008. DP World Djazair is a joint venture between DP World and the Algiers Port Authority (EPAL). The company also operates DP World Djen-Djen to the east of the capital. DP World has been supporting the country’s trade potential through the two terminals, using innovative technologies to help build a digital port community system that simplifies the flow of information. Training and development of local staff to improve efficiency and productivity and engaging with local communities also form part of its operations.
