Kaduna Airport to be ready for operations when Abuja shuts down, assures aviation minister

Jan 9, 2017: Nigeria’s minister of state for aviation, Senator HadiSirika has given assurance that the Kaduna Airport would be completely ready for operations when the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja shuts for six weeks for runway repairs.

Sirika made this statement during a press briefing during an inspection tour of the readiness of the airport in Kaduna. After the decision of the ministry to divert flights to the airport, the Kaduna government pledged its commitment to ensure smooth flight operations from the airport.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the minister said the existing 500-passenger capacity Hajj Terminal would be used, with additional contingency plan in the event that the main terminal building under construction was not completed.

The minister also assured that the terminal building would meet the March 8 deadline, saying the current arrangement was a "force majeure" in case the terminal building could not be completed before the six weeks period.
