Sep 01, 2016: The Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport of the Nigerian state of Kano has provisionally awarded a $US 1.86bn contract to two subsidiaries of China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) to build a light metro network in Nigeria’s second largest city Kano.

The consortium of China Railway 18th Bureau Group and China Railway Construction Electrification Bureau Group will construct phases 1 and 2 of the network, which have a total length of 74.3km and a maximum design speed of 100km/h.

CRCC says the award is subject to fulfillment of all conditions specified in the letter of intent from the financing bank and final approval by the president of Nigeria.
