Nov 16, 2016: Two MoUs have been signed in Algiers for the creation of two companies specializing in transportation.

The first one is an Algerian-Spanish joint venture specialising in the manufacturing of railway equipments while the second is a joint venture between of three Algerian companies of maritime logistics. The future Algerian-Spanish company, which will produce track switches and rail expansion switches in Algeria, is composed of the Public Company specializing in the construction of rail infrastructures, EPE/Infrafer and the Spanish company DF-Rail, world renowned manufacturer of track switches and rail expansion switches. The MoU of the company, which 51 percent of its shares are detained by the Algerian side, was inked by CEO of InfraferBouchemaSlimane and General Manager of DF-Rail Algeria, Abdesslam Mohamed in the presence of the Minister of Public Works and Transports, BoudjemâaTalaï, and Spanish Ambassador to Algiers Alejandro Polanco Matas. These switches are imported and since the existing network includes nearly 4,000 track switches and expansion switches, the railway projects to be launched require almost 2,000 similar switches by 2025, hence the need to create this company which will be the first of its kind in Africa. The second agreement has been signed by CEO of the Djendjen Port Company (Jijel) AbderrezakSellami, CEO of Logitrans Group, BoualemKini, and CEO of Group Gema, Khirat Mohamed. It aims at the creation of a logistics base at Djendjen port, in a bid to supply it with an efficient procurement circuit, form and rapidly mobilize the stocks of the strategic products, notably food staples and medicines as well as the reduction of goods delivery and clearing periods. This company is expected to create 250 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect jobs.
