May 06, 2019: As of June 17, Air Madagascar has announced the resumption of flights between Antananarivo and Johannesburg.

The service will be operated with a B737-800NG aircraft serving the route initially twice a week.

The airline earlier flew to South Africa's commercial centre but halted flights in 2015. The carrier greatly improved since joining a partnership with Reunion-based Air Austral.

In December last year, to boost footprints in Africa and the Indian Ocean Island, Kenya Airways, Air Madagascar and Air Austral have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The code sharing agreement between Kenya Airways and Air Madagascar on Antananarivo-Nairobi route became effective from January 2019.
