AN 225 carries 70 tonnes of relief goods to Namibia from Leipzig / Halle Airport

On June 7, an Antonov 225 took off from Leipzig / Halle Airport (LEJ) on an aid flight to Windhoek in Namibia.

Leipzig / Halle Airport achieved a new record in 2020 with more than 1.38 million tonnes of freight.

July 12, 2021: On June 7, an Antonov 225 took off from Leipzig / Halle Airport (LEJ) on an aid flight to Windhoek in Namibia. The medical equipment on board is for the fight against the corona pandemic.The freight consisted of 530 pallets weighing around 70 tonnes.

The loading of the AN 225 was taken over by PortGround, a subsidiary of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG specialising in aircraft and freight handling, in cooperation with the German Armed Forces.

In addition to regular passenger and freight traffic, Leipzig / Halle Airport serves as a transshipment point for medical aid supplies and protective equipment. In addition to regular traffic, around 70 cargo charter flights carrying millions of corona tests and protective equipment were already handled in the first half of 2021.

LEJ achieved a new record in 2020 with more than 1.38 million tonnes of freight.

The airport is the world's largest hub for DHL and the first regional air freight center of Amazon Air in Europe.
