JNPA Tackles Major Container Congestion Amid Trailer Driver Shortage

Update: 2026-05-27 06:10 GMT

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), also known as Nhava Sheva, is recovering from a major container movement crisis caused by a severe shortage of trailer drivers.

The congestion led to thousands of import containers piling up across Container Freight Stations (CFSs), impacting cargo movement, trucking operations, and supply chains at India’s largest container port.

To ease the situation, JNPA introduced emergency measures including special trains to bring drivers back, increased rail evacuation, green channels for trailers, and a push for Direct Port Delivery (DPD) to reduce pressure on the logistics network.
