Dec 18, 2018: Ethiopian Airlines has resumed flights to Moscow after a gap of 27 years and marking its 120th international destination. The carrier will fly three times a week to the Russian capital. The move was welcomed by Russian ambassador to Ethiopia Vsevolod I. Tkachenko.

"Moscow is a vital addition to our European service, a very important region. It's going to take our total number of weekly flights to European destinations to reach 54 passenger flights a week," said Tewolde Gebremariam, group CEO, Ethiopian Airlines.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, ties between the two nations slid. But Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov visited Ethiopia last March and cooperation in several sectors, nuclear power included, have been discussed.

In few recent developments, Ghana has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ethiopian Airlines to fly the national carrier in 2019; Ethiopian Mozambique Airlines has commenced operations from its base in Maputo; and the airlines has commenced flights to Manchester with four-times-a-week service.
