Jan 10, 2017: UN-backed Libyan government has decided to declare force majeure on Zawiya and Zuwara ports in an effort to curb fuel smuggling.

However, the statement from its presidential council did not divulge any further details on when the move would be put into action.

The move to declare force majeure came in after officials accused a local armed group of fuel smuggling from Zawiya port.

Reports suggest that armed forces at theZawiya port peacefully retracted from the terminal earlier this week. Libya expects its oil production to rise to around 900,000 barrels per day.
