Jan 14, 2019: South African Express (SAX) has resumed flights from Cape Town base to Bloemfontein and Walvis Bay in Namibia, as it continues to accelerate its phased-in restoration of its network.

The daily service will operate one flight on Saturday and Sunday, and two frequencies from Monday to Friday.

Commenting on the relaunch of the flights, SAX’s interim chief executive, Siza Mzimela, said this was confirmation of both the importance of the routes, as well as the significant progress that the airline continued to make as it heightened the implementation of its new business strategies aimed at achieving commercial sustainability.

“Cape Town is one of our most important hubs and we are delighted to be back offering our services to business and leisure travellers from the Mother City to Bloemfontein and Walvis Bay, and vice versa,” she said.

The relaunch of SA Express’s Cape Town hub comes as the airline has recently reported that it is well ahead of all its key performance targets, including the number of its aircraft back in service, its phased-in restoration of its network, its on-time performance and its passenger numbers.

Last year in May, the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) has suspended SA Express’ air operator’s certificate (AoC) as well as the airline’s aircraft maintenance organisation (AMO) approvals. The decision to revoke the airline’s permits came after the SACAA conducted an audit at the airline and its maintenance organisation, which uncovered severe cases of non-compliance that posed as serious safety risks.
