February 28, 2018:  The expert in worldwide special speed logistics, time:matters, has been awarded the internationally recognised ISO 14001 standard certificate for its commitment to environmental management. Lufthansa Cargo AG has already been ISO certified since 2008. This is the first year the certification has been extended to subsidiary time:matters GmbH.

As per a media release from the company, the certificate confirms that time:matters has introduced an environmental management system for its core competencies – the provision of consulting services and the development and realisation of transport services and logistics solutions for time-critical national and international shipments. Specifically, the time:matters environmental program covers three areas: core business processes, customer communication, employee awareness and the development of ideas.

The release further elaborates, in March of this year time:matters will begin trialling electric vehicles at Frankfurt Airport. These will be used directly on the airfield for monitoring shipments. time:matters employees are constantly on the go around the airport apron, escorting shipments and ensuring they are properly loaded in the shortest possible time. BMW i3 cars will be used for the trial. If this initiative proves successful, the company plans to convert all of its apron fleets to electric vehicles to reduce CO2 emissions.

time:matters has already been actively cooperating with customers and service providers on digitising order processes for some time now. One example of this is airmates, the booking platform for onboard courier transports. Within the context of the ISO certification, electronic transport documents will be gradually introduced for same day air and rail orders as well. time:matters also launched an automated tracking system last year, which digitally maps and tracks the entire shipment process. Shipment information is displayed in an app in real time and passed to customers. This simplifies bookkeeping while dramatically reducing paper consumption.

“It is extremely important for us to meet the needs of our customers at all times – not just from an operational perspective, but also with regard to continually improving our environmental performance,” said Christian Mörtl, COO of time:matters GmbH.

A number of changes aimed at improving environmental performance have also been introduced at the Neu-Isenburg office. Besides reducing paper and other waste, time:matters has also created its own digital platform for internal communication on environmental topics. This is used by employees to discuss environmental measures. Employees are also encouraged to put forward their own ideas and suggestions for achieving the environmental targets.
