Aug 22, 2018: Kenya Airways’ has received about 7,000 traveller bookings for direct flights from Nairobi to New York, which is to be launched on October 28.

Kenya Airways’ sales director Julius Thairu stated that the inaugural flight alone is already booked by more than 80 percent. The airline expects the inaugural flight to be fully booked with last-minute reservations.

“To date we have over 7,000 bookings for the New York route with expected cabin factor of above 80 percent for the inaugural flight. We are entering the booking window and expect to take off with a much higher occupancy,” said Thairu.

The Kenya civil aviation authority (KCAA) director-general Gilbert Kibe, and the agency’s board members will be leading an advance team from Kenya to New York two days before the inaugural flight to receive the airline at the JFK International Airport.

KQ opened the direct flight bookings in January to allow passengers plan on their travels ahead of time.
