APM Terminals, SCCT completes $500m expansion at East Port Said
The newly completed expansion adds 955 meters of new quay and 510,000 square meters of additional yard space.

APM Terminals and the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), a transshipment hub at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal, have officially inaugurated a US$500 million expansion at East Port Said.
According to the press release, the newly completed expansion adds 955 meters of new quay and 510,000 square meters of additional yard space. This investment immediately increases SCCT’s annual handling capacity by 2.2 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), raising the terminal’s total capacity to 7 million TEUs.
The new infrastructure is supported by state-of-the-art equipment, including 12 new quay cranes, 30 electric Rubber-Tired Gantry Cranes (RTGs) and over 90 support trucks.
This investment in modern, high-capacity equipment will support rapid transshipment and leverage advanced digital tools, including digital twins, to optimise operations and service major East-West shipping routes.
The expansion aligs with APM Terminals’ goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2040. The deployment of electric RTGs and broader investments in battery-electric equipment, renewable energy, and improved energy efficiency underscore the commitment to greener maritime logistics.
Crucially, the project is set to generate more than 1,000 new jobs, providing a significant economic boost to the region.
