Yusen Logistics Global Management Co., Ltd and AGL Kenya Limited have signed a joint venture agreement in Nairobi to establish a new logistics company in Kenya, subject to regulatory approvals. The partnership brings together the global forwarding and supply chain capabilities of Yusen Logistics with the regional network of AGL Kenya, a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics.

The joint venture follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the two groups in Paris in April 2025 and is planned to be operational from January. The new company will offer freight forwarding, multimodal transport, contract logistics and customs brokerage services, with Kenya positioned as the primary gateway for East Africa.

By anchoring operations in Kenya, the partners aim to support growing trade flows across the East African region and improve integration between regional supply chains and global transport networks. The venture is expected to strengthen connectivity across air, sea and land corridors, addressing the logistics requirements of manufacturers, traders and infrastructure projects in the region.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to delivering world-class logistics solutions across Africa. Together with AGL, we are unlocking new opportunities and building a platform for sustainable growth,” said Hiroyuki Okamoto, President and COO, Yusen Logistics Global Management Co., Ltd.

AGL said the collaboration would combine its experience in African logistics with Yusen Logistics’ global reach to expand service offerings and improve access to international markets. “By combining AGL’s expertise in Africa with YLGM’s global network, we can significantly develop our services to meet our customer needs. This venture represents a significant milestone in connecting Africa more seamlessly with the global economy,” said Stanislas de Saint Louvent, CEO of Africa Logistics & Shipping, AGL.

The joint venture aligns with broader efforts to position East Africa as a logistics and distribution hub, supported by port, rail and corridor developments across the region. Both partners said the new platform would play a role in supporting trade growth and supply chain development across Africa.
