Damietta Furniture City inspected to drive regional exports

Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem said that Damietta Furniture City represents a major national project and a leading specialised industrial hub, serving as a springboard for Egyptian furniture to access global markets. Hashem made the remarks while touring the city alongside Damietta Governor Hossam El-Din Fawzy at the start of his visit to the governorate. Both officials reviewed the city's progress, inaugurated a furniture factory, inspected five manufacturing plants, and visited the Furniture Technology Centre.

The Minister added that the city is the largest specialised zone for furniture and allied industries in the Middle East, boasting capabilities that attract investments and boost exports. He stressed the Furniture Technology Centre's role in testing products to meet European standards, building international trust in Egyptian goods. He pointed out the centre's importance in localising modern technology, training manufacturers, and aligning technical skills with labour market needs.

During an initial briefing with city leadership, officials reviewed the development plan, which includes workshops, exhibition halls, a 150,000-square-metre free zone, a dry port, a logistics area, and an upcoming technical school.

At the Furniture Technology Centre, the minister met with Director Asmaa Fouda, reviewing training laboratories and witnessing the conclusion of summer training programmes for students and manufacturers. The minister also inspected quality testing laboratories tasked with ensuring products comply with international standards.

For his part, Damietta Governor Hossam El-Din Fawzy affirmed that the governorate possesses promising industrial assets, including a strategic port, specialised zones, and a skilled workforce. He added that the governorate works to facilitate investor procedures, stimulate new investments, deepen local manufacturing, and generate job opportunities.

The minister then toured several factories, starting with Mix Door for interior door manufacturing, an EGP 100 million facility spanning 2,200 square metres with an annual capacity of 100,000 doors at 50% local content. Received by the Head of the company Mohamed Nabil, the minister inspected assembly lines and showrooms of the firm, which exports 25% of output to Iraq and Saudi Arabia and employs 125 workers.

He visited Zamzam Furniture, an EGP 25 million plant over 1,600 square metres producing 2,500 full rooms annually at 55% local content, exporting 66% of output across the Arab region and Africa while employing 75 staff.
