October 09, 2019: Accra-based airline Africa World Airlines (AWA) and Brussels Airlines have announced an interline agreement to better connect passengers travelling through their respective hubs in Accra and Brussels.

The new partnership between the airlines will allow passengers travelling from Brussels Airlines' network of 73 European and 21 intercontinental destinations to booking a single ticket to any of the 9 African destinations served by AWA.

"Africa World Airlines is excited to partner with Brussels Airlines to ensure the smoothest connections for passengers beyond our respective hub airports. This partnership serves to solidify Accra's role as the true gateway to the entire West African region," said Sean Mendis, chief operations officer for AWA.

Pierre Declerck, regional manager for Lufthansa Group Airlines said, "Brussels Airlines has a long-standing experience in the African market, and we are constantly looking for ways to offer additional convenient flight options to our valued customers. This partnership with AWA will serve to solidify our position as the airline of choice for passengers traveling between Ghana, Brussels, and points beyond."

At the official signing of the agreement in Accra today, Ghana's minister of aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda who witnessed it congratulated both airlines on the agreement and expressed confidence it will help ensure a seamless travel experience for passengers.

Brussels Airlines flies in and out of Accra daily, with direct service to Europe and North America from Brussels. Brussels Airlines offers the earliest daily arrival from Europe into Accra, thus offering passengers smooth onward connections to and from domestic and regional destinations via Kotoka International Airport's new Terminal 3.

AWA, a private sector Ghanaian airline, started operations in 2012 and now operates a fleet of 8 jet aircraft across destinations throughout Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone; with services to Cote D'lvoire planned to commence shortly. Effective October 15, the airline will begin the first commercial flights to Wa in Ghana's Upper West Region.
